party like its 7th grade

When I was in middle school in the mid 1990s, we use to have dances all the time which were probably the best thing ever. I remember the first time one of my friends and I were like should we go to the dance in sixth grade, when we were the babies of middle school. It seemed like such a big decision to go, and well dance – and it’s not like I grew up in the Footloose town. I just remember that not many sixth graders got to go to the dances, particularly in the fall of that year, by the time you were a seventh grader parents got over that fear of letting you go to a chaperoned outing (or finally figured out they could go out for dinner by themselves by letting you out of the house for 3 hours on Friday night). In true form these days, I’ve been listening to a heck of a lot of music from those formative years. I remember slow dancing to Boyz II Men (wow, some of those lyrics are racy, did I get it then?), grooving to TLC, and the weird dance the girls made up to “500 Miles” – we thought we were cool, but I prefer the notion of tragically hip.  I also remember wearing bigger clothing then I probably wear now as that was all the rage – it was like a flip between 7th and 8th grade when the more fitted clothing made its way back into the norm. Definitely enjoying the trip down memory lane provided by Spotify these days – some of the recommendations are so spot on it is scary!

PS – my seventh grade self -  loved me some JTT. Oh those hours of watching Home Improvement.

summer has come and gone

Well hello September – how are you doing? I can hardly believe it’s unofficially fall already – this week a few of the mornings have been perfect early fall mornings. Still warm enough to not wear tights but a crispness in the air letting you know you should be out and enjoying every single minute of the day. Seems almost shameful to have to go to work this week – but that’s where I am for the week (oh vacation, you are all but a distant memory). I am really going to try to take advantage of weekend activities outside, the past few I’ve been doing enormously long walks both days of the weekend. This is partially because I am still not quite confident about running on my foot (that silly stress fracture), but I am craving some serious vitamin d in the sunshine. I am looking forward to a repeat walking performance as many weekends as I can this fall.

Hope you have a lovely weekend and get to enjoy some of this fantastic weather!

new york sunday times

This song is so sad and sweet at the same time. I really enjoy Matt Nathanson, so hope you enjoy one of his latest songs. I am getting geared up to see him a few short weeks (okay not so short, but fall will fly by I tell you!). In preparation, I've been listening to lots of his new album - Last of the Great Pretenders.

sometimes, the city tells you what to do

Last week was a toughy for me, and though I like having a sunny desposition in life, sometimes you just have one of those weeks where things just don't add up the way you'd like. I was walking the long walk home yesterday  - four city miles, when I stumbled across this window telling me exactly what to do. Instantly felt like New York herself knew I needed a little comsic guidance. Funny how that happens sometimes.
