stephen hawking broke my heart
This past weekend, I finally saw The Theory of Everything, the biography of Jane and Stephen Hawking's marriage. The movie is based on Jane's book (yes, I've added this to my reading list now) Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen. Most people are well aware of Stephen Hawking, his genius, as well as his ALS, but I never before truly consider his personal life, or that of his wife. Hands down, I don't think many people are as strong as Jane, she loved man who was told he had two years to live, and chose to stay. And she loved, cared, supported, even in an increasing hard situation, as two years continued into many more. It was devastating to watch Stephen loose his physical abilities - I cannot even imagine how much strength he has to keep on fighting. At so many points in the movie I was crying like the sap I am, but when Stephen told Jane he was taking his caregiver to America, I was heartbroken. Stephen Hawking broken my heart by choosing Elaine over Jane. I forgave him a bit by the end, when he did continue to include Jane in the important places of his life, and reminded her and us about the life they created together

accomplishments
Can we flash back to 5PM on Friday? No, okay - I just thought I'd check to see if there was any possibility of going back and getting another weekend. This weekend I did feel accomplished, I got a lot of random things done off the to do lists - always a good feeling.
I did a massive Walmart haul for all good things needed to move into the new place in less than two weeks (yay!., I definitely have the essentials covered for a bit, but that's more than helpful for move in day, otherwise I'd have some anxieties about not having paper towels and that would just be annoying.
I finally saw Boyhood, such a good movie. For a movie that was almost 3 hours long I definitely didn't feel like I had sat that long. Such an interesting concept to shoot a movie over 12 years. Is it wrong to secretly hope that there will be a sequel in 12 more years? I think it would still be interesting, although probably harder to keep the storyline as adult lives shift so much more (kids live with their families so easier continuity). Anyway, think about it or make my dreams come true.
Completed the book, Hidden by Catherine McKenzie. This was a good read - definitely not what I expected to happen, I couldn't put this down.
I also packed up my summer clothes that I've had at my parents' house, since it's now in the 40's in the morning I am not going to be wearing summer layers anymore. I miss you summer, see you next year (or maybe a round of Indian Summer in a week or two?).
Hope you had a nice weekend.

friday...
I am extra excited for Friday this week (can I get a Friday cheer please?). It's been a very long work week and after today, deadline number one for the fall will come and go. I've been living at my office, but that's okay. I actually managed to get through this week feeling good, unlike last year which was an emotional roller coaster. It's great what another year can bring for you. I am not out of the woods yet for being totally zen, but it's good not to be super frazzled yet.
The major plan for this weekend is to make a massive trip to Walmart for like the 900 things needed to move into my new place. Yay for a new place, boo for needing things like paper towels and dish soap - my to purchase list is a bit frightening. I also need to drop in and make the final payment for my new couch (who's coming to visit?), so it can be delivered the week after I move in. So much to do so little time. I'll also do another HomeGoods trip - why is there so much cute stuff there? To say I am excited about my move is a complete understatement.
In other news, I am really hoping for a better football performance this week, I am currently in last place in my pool and I was knocked out of the survivor pool week one (thanks Bears, you rock!). Last year I won that survivor pool, so I was hoping to make it at least to week two before it was all over. Anyway the silver lining is I am currently leading my fantasy league - thanks to my male co-workers who picked my team while I was on vacation. I promised one guy lunch if the season continues to go well - because I never would have done that well otherwise.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Do something new.

three cheers for friday
Hip Hip Hooray!
This weekend is one I’ve been looking forward to for so
long. It’s my friends’ annual pool party back down in New York. When the party
date was announced, I knew I had to figure out a way to come down and see a
good majority of my friends in one sweep. It’s so nice when you can see so many
people in one place instead of trying to coordinate so many multiple side trips.
Weekend trips are usually not enough time for me to get in everything I want to
do.
This is my second time to New York since I’ve left, and I’ve
got one more to go next week (I am definitely spending too much time at the airport
– just so you know). I've been going quite a bit for work - the irony. It’s been good to go back, see some of the favorites –
like my favorite gym class, lunch place and it reminds me it’s not too far to
get back and visit from time to time.
Here’s hoping to a beautiful weekend, and no sunburns.

three cheers for easter weekend
Hello dear readers. My apologies for my sporadic posts
lately (every time I use the word sporadic, I think of the movie Clueless) –
spring is keeping me busy and away from the blog a bit more than I would like. Anyway, I am heading into a four day weekend
starting tomorrow and I get to head up to Boston and see the family for the weekend.
I am very excited to get some play time with Norbs- that boy is getting so
grown up, I look forward to the day when he just starts talking to me and never
looks back. I also get to have lunch with a friend and see the nursery she’s
set up for her little ones – I am ridiculously excited to see the babies (yes,
babies as in more than one) room. I
missed her shower, so I’ve got a few little surprises for the wee ones (I’ve
also been trying to come up with names – like Julian, Jiles (like Giles), and
Jilbert, because well I am weird). I
hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

sweet as spring takes this beach
A few weeks ago I escaped the endless winter that the northeast
has been experiencing for a lovely long weekend in Fort Lauderdale. Florida
pretty much greeted me and my winter coat with a lovely warm weather hug and
told me to enjoy having flip flops on and short sleeves for a few days. Oh it
was magical for sure, I was down with friends and enjoyed afternoons on the
beach or pool side, outdoor dinners and a concert by Sting and Mr. Paul Simon. That
weekend was just what the doctor ordered, gave me just enough taste of summer
to make it through back in the cold. I’d like to make this an annual pilgrimage
– a long warm weather weekend to escape the toils of winter. Maybe this is how I
eventually become a snowbird…

might as well drink in the sun
I am too old for all day drinking, though I did enjoy day
drinks over this past weekend. It was so nice to slide down to Florida for some
warm weather and beach and pool time (please remind me this should be a yearly
pilgrimage). I went down to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a lovely time
enjoying relaxing days and evenings outside in true summertime fashion. Returning home to the below freezing temperatures
on Sunday night, was less than pleasant- I am more than ready to leave my winter
coat in the closet for at least 6 months. Anyways, hope you had a fun Saint Patrick’s
Day!

happiness list
I am pretty late to this party, but I am listening to “Let
it Go” from Frozen on repeat now. Idina Menzel sang this when I watched the
Oscars, and then the song won the award, and I was hooked. Strong apologies to my work neighbors as I
think I sing this out loud at some point while I am listening at my desk. What
can I say, I was the little girl who wanted to play Annie whenever I got a
chance.
Getting a lovely long weekend in warm sunny Florida. I am so
glad to have a chance to escape the cold even for a few days. Something about
80 degrees makes everything feel better. Spring, here I am, and I am waiting
for you.
I feel in love with my new way to cross off my to do list at
work. I realized that I hated crossing out and not being able to look back
later to get a handle on what I had done, I’ve started highlighting completed
items – still easy to read, and adds a pop of color to my life (yep, I am a
nerd).
The beautiful flowers I received as a thank you. It’s
probably my favorite thing to tell people I have many secret admirers as this
did come from a group of people. Orange roses are a new favorite – they are so
vibrant.
Also, happy that I finally scheduled my appointment with my
tax guy – it’s always a pleasure to visit Ray this time of year. Yes, it’s
nerdy to like your tax accountant, but mine is pleasant and kind.
