today the blog turns three!

Wow… When I started doing some writing back in the summer of 2011, I thought yep let’s see how long you keep this up. I think I’ve gone back and forth a lot of, lots of posts, and a slight disappearing act. However, I am happy that I still manage to write fairly regularly because I do this primarily because I like to think of it as a way to stretch myself in a more creative aspect.  For those of you who are fairly new, I am an analytical type at work, so I really love the opportunity to stretch myself outside my comfort zone out here in the blog world.

This little blog is special to me – because I get to share little things here and there, try out my voice. I am such a reader by nature, writing felt like a nice extension of that little piece of me.

I hope in the coming year to be able to share more with all of you, particularly now that I’ve ventured to a new (old) city. I am still very much getting my feet wet around here, and figuring out my world – so hopefully that leads to some interesting adventures and insights. Or maybe some hilarity – that to me would be a win for all.

As always, thank you to those who come by from time to time. I appreciate your support on this endeavor.

i had a dream about other bloggers… and no it wasn’t creepy… well…

I don't think there's an appropriate picture for this post, so enjoy a plant.

To dream or not to dream that is the question. I am always one to have really vivid dreams, like you aren’t sure if they are real or not, except there’s a few things that don’t add up. For example, I once had a dream where two girls from high school were baking cookies for some of my college friends in an amazing kitchen – what didn’t add up is how the high school people and the college people knew each other – sure, I was common link but why would someone make cookies for strangers?

The other night I was tired, like bone tired (usually how this weird things happen)- so I was overly excited to hop in to bed and get some rest.  I still like a rock – I don’t wake up for much usually, which I blame on my years of living city life. I could sleep through a rave if I needed to. Somewhere in the dream sequence, I ended up on a train with Stephanie from the Niene Dialogues  and her entire family, who I kept referring to as the modern day Von Trapps from the Sound of Music (Stephanie, if you read this, please know I was nothing but respectful in my dream, I was just really happy to meet you all). The family was as welcoming and lovely as I imagine, and willing to take pictures with me. I honestly felt like I made new friends in my dream. Upon returning to my seat, which then took on an airplane feel (hey, you know anything can happen in your mind) another blogger was there, asking if the people a few rows back was indeed Stephanie. It was Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars  – who was equally as excited to meet Stephanie. I, of course, played with my good manners and made introductions – because well I was old friends with everyone at that point.  Sarah seemed equally as fun as she comes across in her blog, the girl who’s up for anything, and ready to have fun. This is about where I remember waking up…

So if I had to guess what happened next, Sarah, Stephanie (and family) and I probably got off the train and had lunch. I am sure we all became besties for life, or something to that manner.

I swear I am not creepy, but maybe it’s time not to catch up on blogs before bed. Anyway, I am glad that people were really nice in my dreams, as I imagine they are in their everyday lives. Who knows, maybe I’ll make some other friends the next time I have a dream?

confessions: four

I try to live by the rule, Book before Movie. I always like to see how my ideas line up with the movie – would I have made a better movie then the director?

My savings accounts must be divisible by 5. This means that I true up my accounts after each monthly interest accrual. It drives me bonkers otherwise. This is part of loving finance and being a little bit crazy.

Wet shoes make me a cranky pants, but I have ample calves – rain boots I am trying to find you. Would love to know why boots don’t have calve circumferences as an option.

Not too long ago, I fell asleep with my contact lenses in, but didn’t realize it. I then proceeded to put a second pair successfully in my eyes – and thought my vision was just a bit blurry until 3PM when I thought maybe I’d just try to shift the contact in my eye – and found two in there.  Note to self, it’s not allergies, it’s just you being stupid.

I repeat things I know are going to stupid. Like drinking tea on an empty stomach, always makes me feel ill, yet I know I’ll do it again.

Hello August

August, the dog days of summer – am I ever pleased to see you here.  I feel like setting some goals for the month, so of all places to keep me accountable, why not place them on the blog?

Walk 10,000 a day (harder out of New York)
Do 30 sit ups and 30 pushups each day
Catch up on my thank you notes
Send that engagement congratulations card I’ve had for like a month
Read: Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher (for my work book club)
Spend some time on the beach
Figure out what I am doing in Belgium

What’s on your list for August?
