When You Were Older was an interesting novel post September
11th – about a young man who just misses being in the World Trade
Center that morning due to other life circumstances. It was very interesting to
see this man return to his hometown in the middle of America, and deal with
becoming the caretaker to his slightly older brother, as well as the feelings
of a town after the tragedy. Definitely
a book to make you think about what you would do in certain situations, and
what it truly means to be a family and an American.

happiness list
- Not picking up a hairdryer for over a week – I really forgot how much I love summer curls
- Low humidity on vacation – it was comfortably warm and not sticky the whole trip
- Reading five books while away- my brain was hungry, and I kept feeding it
- Making the lottery for a road race in August- so excited
- Stumbling across this tumblr feed- the pictures make me happy (you’ll probably see more of me linking up)

ride the elevator
I hardly took any photos on my weekend getaway for Memorial Day - I think the photo above is the only one that isn't one I tried to take of fish at Atlantis. I just thought I might be fun to actually post a recent photo of myself on the blog- it's been a while, and that dress is one of my current favorites. The weekend away was fun, and one of the bars visited had an old fashioned lift, that had fancy doors- my friend and I took took rides as we didn't get the picture the first time quick enough.

happy little things
How pretty is this print? I love the city scape and the blue colors that are the main focus. I had to share because it just made my day...

sad desk salad
Ever pick up a book based on title alone? I pretty much knew I had to read "Sad Desk Salad" based on the fact I probably eat my own sad little salad most days at work - life gets that busy for a lot of us? This book was a very cute approach to a week in a professional gossip blogger's life and the craziness that ensues as she gets a huge scoop. I definitely was laughing at bits and cringing at others, but all and all this was a great quick read.

paper roses
Not, not really paper roses - but I captured this little group of flowers on my kitchen table after taking home a select few stems after a wedding a couple of weeks ago. The center pieces were lovely, however very tall and it would have been hard to get home in the car - so I did what any girl should do and took a few purple roses home to enjoy for a couple of more days. The flowers matched my dress pretty nicely as well (glad the bride coordinated that one for me!). Do you like taking home flowers at the end of a wedding?

island in the sun
Hello Palm Trees... I love island trips- it's so nice to get guaranteed beach weather. Also nice, is there is limited internet access- so my lovelies I'll catch you on the flip side of vacation- hopefully with lots of beach photos for you to enjoy. Have a great week!

fly with me...
Heading out of town tomorrow- and couldn't be more excited for a few days of beach weather. I love long weekends where you can extend them by a few days off from work- makes for one very happy person here. Hope you have some lovely long weekends!

grin and bear it
(Pink) Snuff is my bear from when I was a little girl. He
still lives with me, as he has survived many a move and still looks pretty good
for his old age. (Yes, my pink bear is a boy. He always has been, he always
will be – and no my mother doesn’t get it). My bear was a gift from my cousin
when I was about 6 years old, and I just loved that he was pink and little.
Snuffy and I have certainly had many good years together, and I look forward to
many many more. I recently found a blue Snuff, which of course I had to get for
Norbs. I am ever hopeful he will love his bear as much as I love mine, and that
when he’s older he’ll still have it, even if he hides it in a box.

by the cover
When watching Grey's last week, they featured both the original "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers, and this AMAZING cover by Sleeping At Last. I immediately started looking for the cover because I was in love with how hauntingly beautiful it was to slow down one of those iconic songs I already love.

The Magician King
I finally got around to reading the sequel to The Magicians by Lev Grossman - The Magician King. I would highly recommend this two book series (though the last one definitely ended with a strong possibility of another one) to anyone who enjoyed Harry Potter or the Chronicles of Narnia. These books remind me of a cross between the two, with older characters- think college students that turn into adults as the books progress. This definitely has filled a void left by the end of the two other series - did any of you feel said that there were no new Harry Potters? There's definitely adventures and quests and all that good stuff that will keep you guessing.

there's always...
There's always money in the banana stand...
I love the television show Arrested Development. As part of the upcoming fourth season, the Banana Stand is making appearances in New York City this week. The other day I walked by this one and was able to get a picture - however I was not willing to wait in a huge line for a chocolate dipped frozen banana. It was great to see this out and about though- definitely made me so excited for the show to start up in a few weeks.

oops...
Well, so much for being good about blogging every day this month- I will make up for it with a few bonus posts through out the next few weeks. Maybe a better goal would have been to try to blog 31 posts before the end of May? I took the weekend off to enjoy time with the family for Mother's Day weekend, which was just so nice. I got to see the baby boy and cuddle him on his first official night away from his parents. I think he survived better then they did. Did you have a nice weekend?

it's just a little crush
Yes, I have a crush and a few of my close friends know all about it. It's a person at work (and really if you think it's you it's probably not, and if you want to confirm ask me, I'll be honest) - who totally does not follow any context clues. I've been subtly or not so subtly trying to at least make the friend radar for the better part of a year. I find the whole working together thing makes this super complex as I do not want to cross that line of too far to go back and it's so awkward at work - I like my job. Oh well, it might just be one of those things that I just enjoy day dreaming about because I am too much of a coward to really do anything about it. Have you ever had one of those oh so awkward crushes as an adult?

serials…
Do you have any book series that you always find yourself
picking up? I often read books by JD Robb, which is a pseudonym for Nora
Roberts. My sister got me hooked years ago, when we use to pass paperbacks back
and forth between us. I love the “In Death” books because it takes place in
2060ish in New York City, with some very cool futuristic takes on life has
changed, but the premise gets down to the heart of solving a mystery. I also
really like that the main characters are a woman cop and her business savvy
husband, who are completely in love with each other and they take down baddies
left and right. I highly recommend picking up this series if you are looking
for a beach read or a vacation get away- I read one of the latest in the series on my
adventure to Arizona not too long ago and it lasted me the whole trip.

Letters to Norby #21
Dear Norby-
My favorite little nephew- Auntie is coming to see you under
the guise of visiting Grammy and Mommy for your first Mother’s Day. Who are we
kidding? Though, I completely love Grammy and Mommy, I am coming to snuggle you
and take you to the zoo. As the two babies of the family, we have a lot of
bonding to do on a May weekend. I hope we get to see lots of zoo babies on our
trip, I am not even sure what the main animals are at the zoo we are going to
but none the less, we will pick a favorite animal. I really hope there are giraffes and monkeys
for us to see.
Cannot wait to see you little guy
Love your favorite auntie
