And yikes… how did I get to another birthday so quickly I
ask you? I am actually quite excited to celebrate my birthday this year, I just
have a feeling that this year is going to be full of fun an all sorts of
surprises. Since my birthday actually
falls over a weekend, I am going to celebrate starting with a happy hour after
work at my favorite place for margaritas. I cannot get too crazy because in the
morning I am running a 10k in Central Park (I am nervous about the cold, the
distance, and well the hangover too if I am being completely honest). Saturday night is going to be the insane
night out though, heading to see Professional Bull Riding with my friends. I am
ridiculously excited for my cowboy themed outing – it best not disappoint. Hope you also have a fun weekend lined up –
hopefully I have lots of fun stories to report back on.

Ode to Postagram
Who doesn’t love a good iPhone app? How about one that turns
your pictures into a lovely postcard that gets sent to your friends and family
via the US Post? I started using Postagram right after Thanksgiving, and it’s
my new favorite way to send little hellos to my friends and family. I love that
you can pick out a photo right from your phone, write a personal message and
then just send and less than a week later this fun little postcard shows up in
the mail about a week later. I am a huge fan of sending a postcard from
something fun I’ve done with people, or just of things I know they like to
see. I am a bit addicted to sending them
these days- it’s just too fun not to do.

promise of a new day
Champagne and Raspberries- Lunch of Champions |
Hello readers- are we sensing a theme this week? Not all
intentional – just as I thought about what I want for 2013, and things I’d like
to do to challenge myself to do in the new year, well the words just couldn’t
be stopped. One thing I am hopelessly
bad at is bringing my lunch to work, I am one of those habitual buyers of lunch
just because it’s so easy (I have a work cafeteria so I don’t even have to go
outside, ever). I am not a big eater of the bad things, it’s typically salad,
but I am wondering if I can actually rise to the challenge of planning enough
ahead to bring my lunch to work at least four times a week in January – if I am
successful, then I’ll see if I can continue the trend throughout the rest of
the year. Seems like a rather simple thought, but I really struggle with that
pre-planning that goes into being able to do this on a regular basis. Lame- I
know but this is really one of those things I’d like to master, mainly because
it means I can really be responsible for what I eat during the work day. One of
the ways I plan on tackling this little challenge is trying to cook a few
things over the weekends and freeze up some portions so I can just pop things
into my lunch sack (ha, I wrote sack, and laughed like a bumbling idiot for
like 15 minutes, yep I am about as mature as thirteen year old boy). Hopefully, I can keep up my good intentions through out the year, but lunch is just one of those things I think I can tackle.

all is quiet on new year's day
Welcome to 2013- I decided that I’d take off the end of the
year from my blogging so I could start off 2013 with a fresh outlook and
feeling ready to dive back in. It was nice to relax and just not worry about
trying to think of fun things to post, or think of fun things to post but get ready
to have fun and busy start to 2013.
Right now I am debating a blog name change- I just don’t really love the
way “a few of my favorite things” sounds any more. I also don’t really feel
like it fits the blog. I am not really that into showing things around the web
to buy or new trends, etc. I still like to do that on occasion, but it’s much
more a back burner blog post these days. I find the blogs I like to read are
just very life style orientated, taking on the life of the blogger, which is
where I think I started to head more and more throughout 2012. For now, I’ll be jotting a few ideas on my
notepad at my desk, so maybe in a month or so you’ll see a better more aptly
named space.
Also on the 2013 agenda is to just enjoy the little things
more and more – take more time out of the busy life to do simple things, like
cook dinner, make it out for a jog, sign up for some strange class or
discussion. Hoping that I can stick to this plan this year… hold me to it won’t
you please?
