things are going to happen naturally

I’ve been feeling antsy… probably because works going balls to the walls (I love that expression, anyone else?), which is making me feel a bit nuts and overwhelmed. Sometimes that’s when I feel the most accomplished at what I do, and other times it just makes me wonder when it’s going to slow down. Right now it feels like when things will slow when retirement happens, which is about 35 years away- give or take. I know that’s not true, but it’s been a fast paced year for me on the work front, with only more exciting things happening. One of the ways I like to cope with work stress is to start (wait, do I ever stop this) thinking about the next vacation to plan. Right now top of my list is going to surf camp in Costa Rica, heading to Paris to enjoy the city and culture, and Iceland to see the natural hot springs.

Letters to Norby #5

Dear Norby-

As your only auntie, I feel that little outfit should be worn as much as possible. Perhaps you are a little sad that for now you only have one auntie, but you never know your uncle (your father’s brother) could change that one day.  I promise though to make you not long for a larger family by ensuring you that  we will have our special bonding sessions. Your momma and I have already planned some days where I will come and play, while she gets some “mommy time”. I actually prefer to think of these as our way of getting in some “auntie/nephew time” – we can cuddle and coo, and soon enough play. I will also probably take more photos of you than you’d like me to do – I can already see that eye roll coming my way in a few short years.

Looking forward to bonding more

falling slowly

I really want to go apple picking this fall - I want to do this every fall, and well I never do it. I feel like a perfect Saturday would be going to an orchard, picking apples, walking through a corn maze, and bringing home a pumpkin or five to carve for Halloween. If I can add in maybe heading to a vineyard for a little wine tasting to cap off a lovely afternoon enjoying the best of fall. Maybe this will be the year I finally get organized enough to do this.

South Carolina on my mind

I am getting pumped up for my trip to Charleston in the middle of October, I've never been before so I am trying to figure out what I must see while I spend a long weekend in town with my mom. It's our last official trip before she becomes a grandma - and then I am pretty sure she'll never leave Norby again. I also have not done much research on this trip yet- is it wrong to hope Mom is going to pull it all together and I can just go along for the trip? If you have any suggestions on what some must sees/do are please share! Thank you.

if i were

Oh boy, I found this little "If I were" list on Charlotte's Web - a new found blog I cannot get enough of (how come everything British sounds 100% more dignified?). I thought I would play along...

If I were a gemstone, I'd be sapphire
If I were a scent, I'd be jasmine with sandalwood
If I were a pair of shoes, I'd be a pair of playful black pumps
If I were the weather, I'd be a summer rainfall
If I were a facial expression, I'd be a wink

If I were a car, I'd be a vintage convertible beetle
If I were a time of day, I'd be 7:30PM
If I were a month, I'd be June
If I were a place, I'd be the beach
If I were a liquid, I'd be a glass of red wine
If I were a taste, I'd be something nutty

If I were a sea animal, I'd be an otter
If I were a food, I'd be macaroni and cheese
If I were a colour, I'd be dark blue, with green polka dots
If I were a musical instrument, I'd be a piano
If I were a flower, I'd be a sunflower
If I were a song, I'd be "a beautiful mess"

If I were a planet, I'd be undiscovered
If I were an object, I'd be a window
If I were a fruit, I'd be an apple
If I were a sound, I'd be soft breeze through trees
If I were a day of the week, I'd be a Sunday.

Letters to Norby #4

Dear Norby-

Today is your mommy’s birthday, as well as your great grandmother’s. Your mom and I are both fortunate to share birthdays with other great family events. You’ll never meet your great grandmother, but I am sure you will hear some tidbits from her life as you get older. One thing to remember, is that she was Grandmother, and not Granny or Grandma, a very formal lady. She was well mannered, and expected the same from those around her – I cannot even begin to count how many times she would remind me to say please and thank you. She drove a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, drank vodka tonics, and walked to and from the Stop and Shop that was near her apartment.  She visited us every Christmas, and was a very good knitter- Grandmother use to make us Fishermen’s sweaters. You’ll know her through us, as she helped us become the people we are, and will help you become the man you will be as we help pass along pieces of her directly to you.

Keep in mind you come from a good heritage (at least on your momma’s side)

I'm about to have me some fun

Stella - the cutest little Boston girl.
Happy Friday dear friends! I hope you all had a great week. One of the major highlights for me was that work decided to grant two extra holidays this year- I think the entire office started high fiving based on this fact alone (it really is the little things). Now with the prospect of two four day weekends to end the year, I am dreaming of taking off to exotic locales and hanging out with that nephew of mine. Now it's time to enjoy this weekend, and it's packed full of lots of things-hanging out friends, a 5k race, and some dinners planned. Hoping that Monday keeps its distance a tiny bit longer than usual. Have a great one!

take these chains

my ladder was a bit shadowy
I absolutely love having colored flats to brighten up outfits- since I do tend to dress a bit drab some times (think black, grey, navy – my staples!). I found this pair at TJ Maxx and I love the details- the studs make this even more fun than just the eye catching color. I was also very excited that these are pointy toed- weird I know, but that’s my favorite shape for flat shoes.
clearly feeling daring at work... not a normal occurrence
